Learn How to “Be a Housing Hero” at Free Seminar Wednesday, Oct. 6

The Raleigh Regional Association of REALTORS® is excited to announce it will be hosting the “Be a Housing Hero” informational seminar on home loans at its offices at 111 Realtors Way in Cary on Wednesday, Oct. 6. The seminar, which is free for RRAR members who register for it, will run from 9 a.m. through 11 a.m.

There will be three guest speakers. Barbara Hess and Kat Driscoll, quality assurance analyst and senior mortgage analyst respectively from the N.C. Housing Finance Agency, will discuss the $8,000 down payment assistance available at 0 percent interest, as well as tax credits still available to first-time home buyers. The latter are worth up to $2,000 a year, each and every year the homeowner lives at the property. They apply to income limits up to $88,000 for three-person households in Wake and Johnston counties. There are more than 75 participating lenders approved for NCHFA programs, and the Agency is promising fast, 24-hour turn times for NCHFA approvals.

Mel Ellis, director of Single Family Housing Programs for USDA Rural Development in North Carolina, will provide information on USDA Mortgage Programs and funding updates on these programs for Fiscal Year 2011. He is responsible for the administration of USDA Single Family Housing Loan and Grant Programs within the state. His tenure with the Department includes serving at the USDA headquarters in Washington, D.C.

A light breakfast will be provided prior to the seminar. Register for “Be a Housing Hero” online at, or call Sonya at (919) 654-5400 x 212. We look forward to seeing you.
